Self-management skills

Lorig and Holman (2003) distinguish six important self-management skills:

1) troubleshooting

2) making decisions

3) using resources

4) forming a partnership with the health professional

5) taking action

6) monitoring the condition and being able to adapt behaviour to the course of the disease and take timely measures if necessary
