VMS, prevention falling
Interventions to prevent falling are always multifactorial and multidisciplinary, e.g.
Bed rails increase the risk of falls and should be avoided.
- Adjustment of medication.
- Optimizing vision and hearing.
- Interventions aimed at the patient’s environment.
- Education and information to patients and their loved ones.
- Interventions aimed at improving mobility, such as training and stimulating mobility (possibly with a physiotherapist) and explanation about the use of aids.
- Attention to the patient’s footwear.
- Attention to ADL (possibly with occupational therapist).
- Attention to toilet needs.
- Interventions aimed at confusion/impaired cognition.
- Interventions aimed at safety when the patient is in bed
