Pain medication and fall risk

It is not so much the amount of medication but the type of medication that can cause a risk of falls and fall incidents. Some medications that can increase the risk of falls are shown in the table below.

Other factors that may increase the risk of falling include a previous fall, fear of falling, confusion/delirium, dizziness, Parkinson’s disease, cognitive impairment and visual impairment.
