Pain wound

A distinction is made between acute wound pain and continuous wound pain.

  • Acute wound pain is caused by manipulation (exploration, surgical wound toilet, changing dressing material, etc.). While with continuous wound pain the patient experiences pain without any manipulation of the wound.
  • Continuous wound pain can be divided into nociceptive pain (tissue pain), neuropathic pain (nerve pain) and a combination of the two (mixed pain).
